Background
The Fifth Industrial Revolution has ushered in a new era where digital technologies shape the future of education, employment, and economic development. Alongside these opportunities, however, comes an unprecedented rise in cyber threats—from identity theft and phishing scams to large-scale attacks targeting critical infrastructure. The education sector, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, has become a key target due to its growing reliance on digital platforms, interconnected systems, and the vast amount of sensitive data it manages.
Cybersecurity has therefore emerged as a fundamental enabler of sustainable development. Without digital trust and secure systems, TVET cannot fully deliver on its promise of empowering individuals with future-ready skills. Recognizing this, the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda emphasizes the role of safe, inclusive, and innovative learning environments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Focus of the Webinar
This webinar will serve as a platform to examine both the strategic and practical dimensions of cybersecurity in TVET. It responds to that call by aligning cybersecurity with TVET’s transformative role in human capital development. Specifically, it reflects the following SDGs:
- SDG 4: Quality Education - ensuring lifelong learning opportunities are delivered through safe and secure platforms.
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth - preparing a workforce that is digitally competent, resilient, and adaptable.
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure - fostering robust systems and partnerships that enhance innovation while protecting digital ecosystems.
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities - promoting digital inclusion so that vulnerable groups are not left behind in the cyber era.
This webinar will examine both the strategic and practical dimensions of cybersecurity in TVET, emphasizing its role as a core competency that should be integrated into curricula, teacher training, and student outcomes. It will explore the importance of digital identity and trust, particularly in protecting learners and institutions from data breaches, fraud, and online threats. The discussions will also highlight how TVET institutions can build resilience through strong policies, infrastructure, and governance, supported by tools that measure readiness against cyber risks. Finally, the webinar will underscore the value of industry–education partnerships, showcasing practical collaborations that enhance digital safety and prepare the workforce for a secure, future-ready economy.
Objectives
- To raise awareness of cybersecurity as a core competency in TVET by emphasizing its integration into curricula, teacher training, and student outcomes.
- To strengthen understanding of digital identity and trust by addressing how institutions can protect learners and staff from fraud, data breaches, and other online threats.
- To build institutional capacity by highlighting strategies for resilience through policies, infrastructure, governance, and readiness assessment tools.
- To foster collaboration by underscoring the importance of industry–education partnerships and presenting practical models that advance digital safety and prepare the workforce for a secure, future-ready economy.
Target Participants
- This webinar aims to share best practices on integrating cybersecurity into TVET systems and impart knowledge to teachers, educators, trainers, curriculum developers, researchers, and administrators of TVET institutions, including practitioners and academicians in the TVET field, as well as policymakers and industry partners engaged in advancing digital resilience and workforce development.
Date and Time
The webinar is scheduled on October 9, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:30 PM (Philippine time), and will be conducted via CPSC Zoom Platform and Facebook live streaming.
