BACKGROUND
The Asia-Pacific region is navigating significant technological, economic, and social changes, creating both opportunities and challenges for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Across the 16 member countries of the Colombo Plan Staff College, TVET institutions are essential in developing learners’ skills, knowledge, and competencies that support sustainable and inclusive growth.
To address emerging workforce needs, TVET must strengthen its research capacity, embedding evidence-based practices into curricula, pedagogy, and institutional strategies. This approach aligns with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, supporting key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). By integrating research into decision-making, TVET institutions can generate actionable insights that inform policy, enhance institutional performance, and improve learner outcomes.
This webinar serves as a platform for educators, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from member countries to share evidence-based strategies, innovative approaches, and collaborative experiences that advance research excellence in TVET. Through knowledge exchange and dialogue, the session aims to reinforce TVET’s role as a driver of sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready workforce development across the region.
FOCUS OF THE WEBINAR
This webinar examines the strategic and practical dimensions of strengthening research capacity in TVET, highlighting its role in driving evidence-based innovation and institutional impact. It reflects the following SDGs:
- SDG 4: Quality Education - enhancing the generation and use of research to inform curriculum, teaching, and learning strategies.
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth - producing labor market insights and research-informed approaches that improve workforce readiness and employability.
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure - fostering institutional research systems and partnerships that support applied innovation and knowledge transfer.
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities - promoting inclusive research practices that address diverse learners’ needs and ensure equitable access to knowledge and opportunities.
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals - strengthening collaboration among TVET institutions, industry, and policymakers to maximize research impact.
Discussions will explore research culture development, priority-setting, methodology design, evidence translation, and dissemination strategies. Participants will gain practical insights, tools, and frameworks to enhance research capacity and leverage findings for policy, institutional improvement, and transformative TVET practices.
