In continuing the support to the development of the region’s TVET, a Regional Program for Principals and Government Officials was held at the ITE College West in Singapore from December 3 to 7, 2012. Eighteen participants representing various countries participated in the 5-day program.

The participants were welcomed by the Assistant Director of the Technical Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Harold Lee and the CPSC Director General, Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub. Corporate videos of the oraganizers were also played in the opening ceremony introducing their line of services and mandate. The program started with a presentation from Ms. Denise Tan, Director of the School of Hospitality, ITE College West about the host institution. Dr. Naim, on the other hand, presented the achievements of CPSC Corporate Plan 2008-2013 and the prevailing trends that will determine its future direction. A tour of facilities around the ITE campus followed after the presentations.

During the five day program, several experts and guest speakers were invited to discuss (several) different relevant topics on administration, innovation and continued development of TVET institutions, taking into account the case of ITE. These speakers include: Mr. Law Song Seng, Senior Consultant on ITE Education Services, who shared about leadership, organizational transformation and building a sustainable TVET system; Mr. Kong Ho Seng, Deputy Director of Academic Development, ITE, who presented the ITE Curriculum Design and Development; Ms. Seow Bee Ling, Head of the Pedagogic Development/Education Design and Technology Division, who discussed about the impetus and strategies on ITE Quality Teacher Development and Mr. Eden Liew, Principal, ITE College East, who presented management systems of an ITE College. Dr. Lionel Lau, Director of the School of Applied and Health Sciences, ITE College East, guided the participants on a study visit to the ITE College East Campus.

The participants were also provided opportunity to share a glimpse of the learning systems and share relevant experiences on the development of their TVET systems. They also documented their progress, achievements and lessons learned during the five-day activity through an action plan presented during the end part of the program.

The five-day program concluded with a vote of thanks and impression from the participants represented by Mr. Shahid Nadeem of Pakistan, as well as appreciation and presentation of certificates led by Mr. Harold Lee from MFA.
