Background

The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development presents a transformative vision for a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable world. The agenda is anchored in 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which collectively serve as a global call to action for governments, institutions, and civil society. Education plays a central role in realizing this vision, and TVET represents a significant component of that effort.

TVET equips individuals with practical skills and competencies for decent work, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. It also contributes directly to economic growth, social inclusion, and innovation. However, to fully leverage TVET’s potential in achieving the SDGs, it must be purposefully aligned with sustainable development principles—integrating issues such as climate action, gender equality, digital inclusion, and decent work into its design and delivery.

Global and national policy dialogues increasingly emphasize the need for a TVET system that not only responds to market needs but also drives the SDG agenda forward. Institutions, educators, and policymakers must now work together to realign TVET strategies with broader development frameworks.

Focus of the Webinar

This webinar focuses on understanding and advancing the integration of SDGs within TVET systems, with emphasis on practical strategies, institutional best practices, and policy innovations. It aims to create a shared space for dialogue, learning, and collaborative thinking among stakeholders from across the TVET ecosystem.

The webinar will explore the multifaceted relationship between TVET and the SDGs, particularly:

  • SDG 1: No Poverty, by enabling livelihoods and reducing economic vulnerability through skills development and workforce integration.
  • SDG 4: Quality Education, with emphasis on lifelong learning, equitable access, and relevant skills for employment.
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by promoting workforce readiness and youth employability.
  • SDG 5 and 10: Gender Equality and Reduced Inequalities, through inclusive access and equity in vocational training.
  • SDG 9 and 13: Industry Innovation and Climate Action, by supporting green skills and technological preparedness.

The discussions will highlight how TVET institutions can embed SDG values into curriculum development, teaching practices, institutional governance, and partnership models, ensuring that they not only respond to the needs of today’s industries but also contribute to a sustainable and just future.

Objectives

  • To raise awareness about the significance of aligning TVET with the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • To explore strategies for embedding SDG-related themes such as sustainability, gender equity, and digital inclusion into TVET programs and policies.
  • To share best practices and innovations from institutions and countries that have successfully integrated SDGs into their vocational training systems.
  • To foster collaboration among TVET institutions, industry partners, and policymakers to co-create actionable models for sustainable skills development.
  • To encourage the development of monitoring frameworks that measure the contribution of TVET to SDG outcomes, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.

Target Participants

This webinar aims to share best practices on the integration of SDGs to TVET systems and impart knowledge to teachers, educators, trainers, curriculum developers, researchers and administrators of TVET institutions, including practitioners and academicians in the TVET field.

Date and Time

The webinar is scheduled on August 19, 2025 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM (Philippine time), and will be conducted via CPSC Zoom Platform and YouTube live streaming.
