CPSC and TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority), Philippines’ In-Country Program on Labour Market Information System (LMIS) in TVET Policy Development and Program Formulation gathered over 40 participants from different TESDA regional and provincial offices and from the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE/DOLE) of the Philippines. CPSC and TESDA teamed up for the LMIS program for this year’s second In-Country Program held from November 19 to 23 at the TESDA Women’s Center, TESDA Compound, Taguig City, Philippines.

The LMIS program was designed to develop awareness and understanding on the basic concepts of labor market information management system and its utilization for TVET policy formulation and program development to stay abreast with the needs of the workplace. The ICP focused on discussing LMIS functions, forecasting, analysis and current trends and LMIS for TVET and its leverage to program and policy development. Resource Speakers shared their expertise and experiences on LMIS and provided guidance to the participants in designing action plans for establishing LMIS for the Philippines.

The CPSC team under the helm of the CPSC Director General, Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub forged solid cooperation with TESDA team under the direction of Hon. Sec. Emmanuel Joel Villanueva, TESDA Director General, and Director Irene Isaac, TESDA Deputy Director General for Sectoral TVET, for the program’s successful implementation.

Dr. Hazrat Hussain CPSC Faculty Consultant, who acted as Program Coordinator and Resource Person, handled the arrangements, academic content and day to day facilitation of the program in cooperation with Ms. Maria Susan P. Dela Rama, Executive Director, TESDA, who acted as Local Coordinator.

Dr. Gazali bin Abas, Director, Human Capital Development, Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department of the Government of Malaysia was invited as Resource Person to discuss LMI System with focus on Labor Information forecasting and Trends: The Malaysian Experience.

A one day Seminar to discuss issues on regional workforce mobility trends and other related concerns was also held within the ICP on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the same venue.
