Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or Drones are emerging into prominence in multifaceted environments and applications including military, societal, agricultural, environmental, disaster, infrastructure assessment, wild life monitoring missions and have also become an essential tool for demonstrating diverse industrial applications. Based on the Drone Industry Insights, by 2030, the combined drone market is projected to reach US$54.6 billion, driven by a steady Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.1%. Notably, the commercial drone sector is poised for even more rapid growth, with projections indicating a robust 7.7% CAGR. In contrast, the recreational counterpart is expected to exhibit a modest -0.3% CAGR. Due to the rising demand of UAVs in the industrial applications, the present TVET education and training system has to impart knowledge and skills in the field of UAVs to the education sectors. TVET is significantly contributing towards upskilling and training the educational systems by means of conducting various training programmes across the globe. There are many countries promoting UAV technologies.

It is also an imperative to provide valuable knowledge in the field of UAV because of the fact that they will play an inevitable role in futuristic missions. The UAV sector is creating significant career opportunities across different parts of the countries and real demand is still in the rise. As the UAV ecosystem expands, the real need of the hour training and skill development in the UAV domain is of utmost importance. The multidisciplinary aspects of UAV technology need to be shared for holistic understanding and making the stake holders of TVET sector to handle the complex real time industrial problems. The drone industry is looking for highly skilled drone pilots, technicians and engineers with comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge. It is essential to broaden the scope of knowledge into drone training for upskilling aviation industry requirements. Indeed, the industry specific skills and knowledge of drones for safe operations is of high demand. Learning the fundamentals of UAV technology and applying into the field leads can solve pertinent issues in the industries. With the advent of drone technology, UAVs are integrated with machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms and on-board processing capabilities are capable of precisely mapping natural features, performing reconnaissance and border surveillance as well.

UAVs integrated with various sensors including thermal imager, multispectral / hyperspectral imaging systems, LiDAR, Internet of Things (IoT), Non-Destructive Test (NDT) equipment and other advanced instruments are effectively utilized for collecting critical data for within the construction industry such as in the installation of long span bridges and elevated PROGRAM DESIGN: Drone Technology in TVET infrastructure and monuments. UAVs are capable to manoeuvre in challenging environments like caves, long tunnels, and disaster-prone regions for effective navigation. There are numerous applications that can be sought with the aid of UAVs. TVET educators have to impart knowledge on various applications of UAV and inculcate innovative paradigm of UAV technologies. They have to make necessary efforts to spearhead the technological aspects and skill sets of drones across the world. The use of drone technology is inevitable for the Industrial Revolution 5.0. By leveraging this technology for deploying in real time environments, cost effective autonomous missions can be achieved by integrating AI/ML technologies. The drones are the future air bus to carry passengers. Drones will have tremendous potential for a variety of business models that will create plethora of career opportunities for engineers and technicians. It is therefore, essential to explore the future technological aspects of drone in the TVET sector.

The program will focus on the following themes:

  • How can drone technology be inculcated in the TVET educational framework?
  • How can sustainable approaches and solutions be provided to industrial, societal, defence, environmental, agricultural and other multifaceted environments using drone technology?
  • How can the TVET participants be trained in developing their skills and knowledge in UAV technology?
  • What are the present and future prospects and job opportunities in drone technology?
  • How can the TVET skills and experience be enriched with the learning of drone technology?


  • To classify and illustrate various types of UAVs;
  • To design UAV for specific payload and mission requirements;
  • To develop various UAV systems for industrial applications; and
  • To explore the performance characteristics of UAVs and solve industrial challenges with the aid of UAVs
