Background

The webinar topic is New Dimensions of TVET with Innovation and Technopreneurship is to create or develop new products, business, market, processes or even services in a techy way. The term “tech” is all about technology from computers to anything. A technopreneur is basically an entrepreneur with both business and technical training background. A technopreneur applies technology and innovation as the business’ core operating model.

In referring to TVET graduates, by creating or inventing a new product, simply Technopreneurship helps them to be employed. Being the century of the age of information, a new idea combined with available opportunities and technological advancement can lead to making Technopreneurs. Only need is to tap in to the resources, think creatively and turn the idea into a business venture maximising the benefits of expanded global market, creating platforms to make better relationships, reduced costs and access to information.

It is obvious that one of the key requirements to be a Technopreneur is the ability to develop and offer something unique to the marketplace. This clearly depicts, Technopreneurship is directly associated with creativity. The World Economic Forum has identified Creativity as one of the top 3 skills required in the age of Industrial Revolution 4.0.

This paper discusses Creativity, Innovation and Invention, barriers to creativity, creativity process, how to improve creativity, the importance of Creativity in Technopreneurship and importance of including Creativity in TVET Curricula. It also discuss winning and best practices for Entrepreneurial success

This Webinar on “New Dimensions of TVET with Innovation and Technopreneurship” aims to provide an online training platform for CPSC member countries’ participants; to understand Creativity, Innovation and Invention, the importance of Creativity in Technopreneurship and importance of including Creativity in TVET Curricula.

Resource Speakers


Dr. Ramhari Lamichhane is the first Nepali and the 11th Director General of CPSC. He is also the concurrent President of Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC). He has 30 years of experience in TVET starting as an instructor up to becoming the CEO of Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) in Nepal. He served as Project Manager in ADB projects and Program Coordinator in Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) funded projects. He was a key member in formulating the TVET Policy of Nepal in 2007 and 2012.

He is a dynamic leader, certified project assessor, strategic planner, experienced project manager, TVET Institution Quality Assessor, TVET Expert, and a seasoned manager, attested by the awards received such as the Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu IV from the Late King Birendra Bira Bikram Shah Dev and Global Educational Leadership Award by the World Education Congress; scholarship from Ryutaro Hashimoto Foundation, Japan; and Humphrey Fellowship from Fullbright Foundation, USA.

He has presented papers in a number of international conferences and meetings on TVET. He has authored and co-authored publications on TVET in various thematic areas - accessibility, greening, entrepreneurship, financing, equality, and image building. Dr. Lamichhane earned his PhD and MPhil in Education Leadership from Kathmandu University in Nepal. He has a degree in Educational Administration, Planning and Policy from Peabody College/Vanderbilt University, Tennessee, USA.


Mr. HB Dayaratne from Sri Lanka, is an Electronics & Telecommunication Engineer by Profession with over 3 decades of experience as a Lecturer, Mentor, Coach, Trainer and Speaker. He is an Authorized Instructor for CISCOM (Supply Chain and Operations Management) from BRASI USA. Currently he is a visiting consultant to Conquering Boundaries and Technology & Management Services in Bangladesh. His prior engagements include Head of Operations – SEI Campus (SL), Head of Graduate Programs – SCOT (SL) a subsidiary of Skills International, Board member of 2 Sri Lankan Government authorities - Lanka Mineral Sands Limited & Sri Lanka Consumer Affairs Authority, Lecturer at Seychelles Polytechnic, Seychelles and IT Manager at Industrial Finance Limited (Sri Lanka).

He had been involved in over 100 training sessions as a resource person/ trainer/ keynote speaker in many organizations, government and private colleges. The participants include Engineers, Accountants, Senior Management Staff, Merchandizers, Industrial Engineering Professionals, Bankers, entry level professionals and students from different organizations including Ceylon Electricity Board, Petroleum Corporation, Apparel Industry, Universities, Polytechnics & Colleges. Areas covered include Creativity & Innovation, Supply Chain & Operations Management, Project Management, Skills Development (includes many soft skills) and Engineering Design.

He presented technical papers at International Conferences organized by IDEB & CPSC Manila in 2015, 2017 and 2019 in Dhaka on TVET for Sustainable Development, Skills for the Future World of Work and TVET for Global Competitiveness and Skills Readiness for achieving SDGs and adopting IR 4.0. He presented a Technical Paper at the SDEF Convention (SAARC Diploma Engineers Forum) held in 2015 in Kathmandu, Nepal and a was a panellist at the National Workshop on 4IR organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held in Dhaka.
