The Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) conveys its sincere greetings and best wishes to the Republic of India as it celebrates its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026.
On this significant occasion, CPSC recognizes India’s achievements since independence and its contributions to development, innovation, and regional cooperation. CPSC also values its continued partnership with India in advancing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and strengthening TVET systems across the Asia-Pacific region.
2026 Celebrations
The historic Red Fort in New Delhi, India, the site of the Prime Minister’s annual Independence Day address.
The centerpiece of India’s Independence Day takes place at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will unfurl the national flag and address the nation. Ministers, members of parliament, government officials, members of the armed forces, students, youth representatives, and invited guests are gathered together in witnessing the national celebration of India’s freedom and achievements. The traditional ceremonial proceedings also include the Guard of Honour and a 21-gun salute.
A notable highlight of this year’s celebration is “Yuva Shakti,” or Youth Power, which recognizes the vital role of India’s young people in advancing the nation’s continued progress and development while helping shape its aspirations for the future.
The enduring legacy of “Vande Mataram” is featured during India’s 2026 Independence Day celebrations.
The 2026 celebration also carries special cultural significance as India marks the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” the national song that became an enduring symbol of the country’s freedom movement. For the first time, “Vande Mataram” will be sung from the ramparts of the Red Fort before the National Anthem during the Independence Day ceremony, adding a historic dimension to this year’s observance.
Har Ghar Tiranga 2026
Nationwide participation is encouraged through the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, which runs from August 9 to 17, 2026. The activity advocates for citizens in India and members of the Indian diaspora to proudly display the national flag and participate in the “Selfie with Tiranga” campaign. In 2026, the campaign is being held as part of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram.”
Since its launch in 2022, Har Ghar Tiranga has evolved into a people-centered movement promoting patriotism, civic participation, and a personal connection with the national flag. The 2026 campaign continues this tradition by bringing together citizens, communities, educational institutions, and organizations in celebrating India’s unity and national identity.
As India commemorates its 80th Independence Day, CPSC joins the nation in honoring the sacrifices of its freedom fighters and celebrating its continuing journey toward progress, innovation, unity, and inclusive development.
