The Keynote Speker, Dr. Lamichhane, presenting his ideas about the impact of TVET during the webinar

In order to make sense of the different strategies for TVET to continue and thrive despite the threat of the global pandemic that has affected the world this year, the Colombo Plan Staff College and the Diploma Engineers Association of Nepal (DEAN) co-organized a webinar on “TVET Education in the Context of Covid-19” on September 2, 2020 at 8:00 AM (Nepal Time; 10:15 Philippine Time). The seminar involved a total of 64 participants from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines and Sri Lanka.

The webinar tackled the strategies to bridge the ongoing interruptions of learning due to the closure of schools. It also enabled the rethinking of mindset changes in the post COVID-19 recovery and how vocational excellence approaches are validated even in the time of COVID-19.

The keynote speaker for this program is CPSC Director General, Dr. Ramhari Lamichhane who discussed the TVET in the Context of Covid-19 in Nepal. Meanwhile, the CPSC Faculty Specialist, Engr. Abdul Ghani Rajput, discussed the distance learning during Covid-19 and key experiences and examples from Pakistan.

Panelists from Nepal include Mr. Rajendra Prasad Adhikari, Adviser to DEAN and a procurement contact management and dispute resolution expert; Mr. Khagendra Prasad Adhikari, the Vice Chairperson of CTEVT and Mr. Dinesh Devkota, a visiting professor from the Central Department of Environmental Science Tribhuvan University (CDES-TU) and Policy Adviser for the Integrated Development Society (IDS) Nepal. They discussed the strategies on making TVET better in Nepal in light of the present global crisis, the challenges in training the youth of Nepal during the pandemic and the recommendations in further strengthening the economy of Nepal after the global pandemic, respectively.

The seminar was concluded by Dr. Lamichhane and the Chairperson of the Webinar session and President of DEAN Nepal, Engr. Kameshwar Prasad Singh. They expressed their optimism about the program’s success and applicability especially in confronting the problem of Covid-19 in the region.
