A total of 31 TVET stakeholders in the different institutions and training centers in Maldives gathered at the Maldives Polytechnic in Male for the In-Country Program on Entrepreneurship Development in TVET held from April 8 to 12, 2018.

The program was organized to further strengthen the awareness of the participants on the relevance of entrepreneurship education in present times. It is currently a trend to divert a significant chunk of TVET graduates from wage employment to entrepreneurial careers in a developing country like Maldives and the program aims to facilitate that transition by providing viable training knowledge to the participants. Topics such as the Blue Ocean Strategy, Entrepreneurial Motivation and Entrepreneurial Support Agencies were tackled during the 5-day event.

Dr. Ramhari Lamichhane overseeing the action plans being developed by the participants as part of their activity during the training. The program arrangements were supervised by Ms. Aminath Asra, the Director of the Maldives TVET Authority and CPSC Director General, Dr. Ramhari Lamichhane. Dr. Lamichhane also provided the academic resources of the program as the coordinator and resource person. Local logistics were facilitated by the Assistant Director of the TVET Authority of Maldives, Mr. Ali Riyaz and additional information about the local scenario was delivered by the Managing Director of the Business Center Corporation, Ltd. Of the Ministry of Economic Development, Mr. Ahmed Mumthaz. The Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Qualification Authority, Dr. Abdul Hannan Waheed, was also present during the program to provide his expertise and support.

As a way to supplement the lessons in the event and to extend the course to as many participants as possible, a National Seminar tackling the need to strengthen the entrepreneurship education of the TVET sector in the country was held on April 10, 2018. The seminar invited notable persons in the field of entrepreneurship education in Maldives including Ms. Aishath Sinaau (Standard Developer, TVET Authority of Maldives); Ms. Shaahina Ali (Executive Director, Parley for the Oceans); Dr. Ramhari Lamichhane and Mr. Ahmed Mumthaz. Topics such as Entrepreneurship Education in the TVET curriculum, Women Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial opportunities for graduates were shared to the audience composed of 92 students and TVET practitioners.
