CPSC and the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) jointly conducted yet another successful In-Country program in Nepal. The program titled “Strategic Planning and Management of TVET Institutions” which ran from March 25 to 29, 2013 at the Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI), Baktapur, Nepal achieved the following objectives: Understand the concepts, principles, processes and mechanisms of strategic planning and management; Appreciate importance of strategic planning in anticipating the future environment; Comprehend the steps involved in the process of strategic planning to be able to design and operationalize a customized strategic planning workbook covering the planning, monitoring and evaluation components for review and approval by the proper authority in CTEVT; and Prepare the respective institutional development action plan of the TVTIs, guided by strategic planning process.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr. Gopal Prasad Khanal, Vice Chairperson, CTEVT, and Dr. Jay Bahadur Tandan, Member Secretary, CTEVT. Prof. Dr. Shiba Kumar Rai, Member, National Planning Commission, Nepal was the chief guest on the occasion. In his inaugural speech, he emphasized that good planning must be followed with commitment for proper implementation and only then can we expect positive changes to surface in the target sector.

Overall supervision of the program was provided by the Director General of CPSC Dr. Naim Yaakub while the program coordination was serviced by Dr. Hazrat Hussain, CPSC Faculty Consultant aided by the Local Coordinator Dr. Ram Hari Lamichanne, Director, Technical Division, CTEVT. Both Dr. Hussain and Dr. Lamichanne also acted as Resource Persons.

Feedback from a total of 25 participants indicated a high degree of satisfaction for the management of the program while a high degree of performance was demonstrated through the active group tasks as well as the end-of-course test performance.

The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. Naim, Dr. Khanal, and Dr. Tandan. In his closing speech, Dr. Naim emphasized that a strategic plan is a living document that must be sufficiently dynamic to address the rapid changes and increasingly unpredictable future scenario. He also stressed the importance of conveying the plan to all levels of human resources in the system and to have champions or proponents of the plan so that all staff remain committed to achieve the same vision for the institution, and more importantly play their respective roles in the action plan. He ended by saying that the success of the plan will be mainly measured by the attainment of its goals and objectives and the impact it has brought about. Dr. Naim also thanked CTEVT, TITI and all personnel who have contributed in one way or another to the successful conduct of the program and expressed hopes for the continued collaboration between all parties mentioned
