RESEARCH ASSISTANT

The Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) is an Inter-governmental International Organization for Human Resources Development. It aims to assist its 16 member countries in Asia and the Pacific Region in developing and enhancing their technical education systems through capacity-building programs, research, technical assistance, and knowledge transfer in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

The main functions of CPSC include:

  • Provide training programs of further professional education and training to persons responsible for the planning, development, administration, and supervision of TVET and persons in key supporting roles;
  • Conduct conferences, symposia, and workshops on various aspects of TVET;
  • Manage customized programs on TVET planning, development, and evaluation;
  • Undertake research and development projects for knowledge sharing and benchmarking in TVET;
  • Assist member countries in developing their technical teacher education and training facilities;
  • Collect and disseminate information on technical education and training; and
  • Act as a facilitator of member countries in the transformation of the TVET framework by modifying the training and development strategies, program offerings, and research and development efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Research Assistant

The Research Assistant provides support to the operations of the Research, Publications, and Information Division (RPID) through assistance in implementing the research and development projects of the staff college. He/she also assists in content development which includes project proposals, web news, articles, etc. He/she also assists in the development of CPSC's knowledge products such as theme papers, publications, books, journals, reports, brochures, and other materials related to training, research, and information.

Specific Duties

Research Projects Development and Implementation

  • Assist in the preparation of research and development studies and project proposals on emerging trends in the Asia Pacific Region and their impact on TVET for consolidation and dissemination to member countries
  • Perform research-related functions such as data encoding, processing, determining trends, graphing, matrix building, development of research instruments, and interpreting findings and results
  • Assist in the development/formulation of the need-based survey instrument in support of the requirements of professional staff/organization
  • Conduct desk research, administer surveys, and provide documentation and analysis of the data and information gathered for research projects

Publication Development and Information Dissemination

  • Assist RPID Officer in the preparation and publication of various CPSC information documents such as CPSC journal (STEPS), quarterly publications, conference/program proceedings, brochures, flyers, etc.
  • Assist in preparing CPSC periodic reports such as annual, midyear, biennial reports, etc.
  • Assist in conducting initial review and proofreading of paper submissions and facilitate the publication of the CPSC journal (STEPS)
  • Develop content for CPSC and APACC websites in coordination with other concerned divisions
  • Assist in preparing periodic reports of RPID such as Mid Year and Annual Reports, KPI, and divisional accomplishment reports in consultation with the RPID officer and/or chairperson
  • Assist in preparing the yearly operational plan of RPID, in consultation with the RPID officer and/or chairperson

Others

  • Assist in the preparation and conduct of training-related activities and other programs and projects as may be assigned
  • Provide assistance in the preparation of the program book, theme papers, and project/project reports as needed
  • Perform other tasks and related duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

    University degree in development communication, education, social sciences, international development studies, or in any related fields

Experience

  • At least (1) one year of relevant experience as a research and/or publication assistant
  • Experience working in other International Organizations is an advantage

Technical Competencies

  • Utilizes computer application software like SPSS or similar software in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • Presents complex information of facts and figures through tables and graphical illustrations.
  • Actively applies new technologies for enhancing productivity and creative solutionsExcellent command of oral and written English language
  • Proficient in database and word processing software
  • Must be adept in report and technical writing
  • Must have a good command of the English Language, both oral and written
  • Knowledgeable in research project proposal packaging

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Starting gross monthly salary: Php 26,000 to Php 31,000 depending on the applicant’s qualifications
