Singapore-CPSC Joint Training Program on Innovative Concepts for TVET Development

The 2nd Singapore-CPSC Joint Training Program on “Innovative Concepts for TVET Development” was held from November 23-26, 2009 organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore and Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education. The program was conducted through the Nanyang Polytechnic International in Singapore. 

The program aimed to appreciate the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) development experience of Singapore and the unique TVET concepts pioneered by NYPI, and to acquire experience and new innovation which are applicable for the development of TVET system in Asia and the Pacific region.

Ms. Belinda Tay, Deputy Director (Special Projects), Technical Cooperation Directorate, MFA, graced the inaugural program and welcomed the 21 participants from 13 CPSC member countries, comprised of senior TVET administrators and professors.

On behalf of CPSC, Prof. Shyamal Majumdar, CPSC Director General, led in the formal opening of the program. He expressed sincere appreciation to the Government of Singapore through the Technical Cooperation Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Nanyang Polytechnic International for hosting the program, which was the second joint regional program of CPSC with MFA in the last two years.

Dr. Majumdar stressed that the opportunity afforded by conducting the program in Singapore would allow participants to learn new knowledge and actual best practices implemented within the Singapore education system and get acquainted with the new innovations which are very much suitable in infusing fresh developments in the countries’ Technical and Vocational Education Training system. He also shared about the current achievements of CPSC in terms of conducting human resources development programs with focus on TVET through regional programs, in-country programs and international conferences.

The following officers from the Nanyang Polytechnic International and Technical Cooperation Directorate, MFA Singapore were also present during the inauguration, Mr. Foong Tze Foon, Senior Director, NYPI; Ms. Denise Cheng, Assistant Director; Ms. Mindy Low, Technical Cooperation Officer; Mr. Samuel Fong, Asst. Technical Cooperation officer and Mr. Hee Peng Liang, Liaison Officer.

Mr. Vergel de la Paz, CPSC Training Officer, assisted in the conduct of the program.
