Seminar on Emerging Trends in TVET for DepEd educators, administrators
To facilitate greater understanding of the new paradigms in teacher education in the field of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) among professional teachers, educators and administrators of the Department of Education (DepEd), the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) in collaboration with DepEd organized an International Seminar on "Emerging Trends in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)” on June 25, 2010 at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan Hall, DepEd, Pasig City, Philippines.
The key objective was met, along with other expected aims for conducting the seminar that include appreciating the role of Public Private Partnership in TVET and recognition of the new perspectives in teaching and learning in the knowledge era.
The seminar was attended by 117 participants composed of DepEd undersecretaries and assistant secretaries, bureau directors, regional directors, schools division/city superintendents, heads of technical – vocational schools, tech voc task force staff, and invited academic officials from the University of Pasig City, Philippines.
DepEd's Secretary, Hon. Dr. Mona Valisnzo inaugurated the seminar and welcomed speakers and participants to DepEd through a message conveyed by Undersecretary Antonio Inocentes. In her speech, she acknowledged strengthened collaboration between CPSC and DepEd. She further stressed DepEd's aim to assist high school students in acquiring vocational courses through DepEd's techvoc program and conveyed her appreciation to CPSC for organizing the seminar.
The international speakers included Prof. Dr. Shyamal Majumdar, Director General of CPSC; Mr. Felipe Torres, Director of Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Learning Development Center; and Prof. Dr. Rajesh P. Khambayat, Faculty Consultant and Chair of Training and Development Division, CPSC.
