On its third collaborative venture, the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) teamed up with the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities of Industrial Technology (PACUIT), Inc. and the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) for the 14th PACUIT National Conference with the theme "PACUIT at 14: Academe-Industry Linkage Towards a Sustainable Global Society". The confab convened 320 college/university administrators, educators and advocates of industrial technology from 63 institutions from April 27-29, 2016 at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), Tagaytay City, Philippines.
The conference was organized to update the participants on the current trends in the industry, discuss about OBE (outcomes-based education)-based curricular programs, including enhancing industry linkages. It also aimed to promote collaborative research, sharing of experiences, knowledge and expertise among participants. The program also sought to gain insights on the advancement of industrial processes in the academe-industry collaboration.
PACUIT Executive Director, Dr. Renato Alba warmly welcomed all the guests, key speakers, partners and co-organizers to the program. He also acknowledged the 320-strong participants from various attending institutions by region.
Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) President and concurrently PACUIT President Dr. Nora Ponce underscored the need for a "fresh perspective: that of inclusive sustainable development" whereby "being global as a community is not just about being industrialized or technology-based", but "must be an integral part of academic, economic and social planning."
TUP President Dr. Adora Pili, as the representative of the host university, graciously welcomed all the guests and participants. On the other hand, Tagaytay City Councilor, Hon. Violeta Parra, representing the City Mayor Hon. Agnes Tolentino conveyed a congratulatory message and warm wishes to PACUIT on its 14th conference.
The keynote speaker, CPSC's 10th Director General Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub, currently the Director of TVET Special Projects, Department of Polytechnic Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia tackled wide-ranging areas, aspects, issues and concerns of Academe-Industry (AI) Linkage. He pointed out that countries in the Asia-Pacific Region are currently exhibiting a certain degree of readiness with regards to public-private partnerships (PPP). He mentioned the progress of the Philippines in undertaking PPP projects as a model for the region.
Plenary lectures were facilitated by state university and college (SUC) presidents as moderators, followed by parallel sessions on various topics. Plenary speakers included Prof. Dr. G. Kulanthaivel (Methodologies and Strategies for Relevant Linkages); Dr. Manuel C. Belino, Dean of School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Mapua Institute of Technology Industry-Based Curriculum Enhancement; Dr. David Hall, Chief of Party, USAID-STRIDE (Global Competitive Technology Education); Dr. Teresita Fortuna, Director of Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (Collaborative Research initiatives); Dr. Alex Brillantes, Jr., Commission on Higher Education Commission (Technology Invention and Innovation); Engr. Eric Jude S. Soliman, President of Hytec Power, Inc. with Dr. Perfecto Alibin, Senior Education Advisor (Industry-Academe Linkage on Instructional Materials Development: The Hytec Power, Inc. Experience).
CPSC and PACUIT took the opportunity to officially ink the Memorandum of Agreement for the event, stipulating each other's expressed intents and understanding in conducting the 14th PACUIT Conference.
PACUIT is a national organization of colleges and universities offering industrial technology program, currently with 48 member institutions and with almost 3000 members. It is aimed to pursue quality education along industrial technology and advance research and innovations to develop industrial workers.
CPSC and the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC), as partners of the event, staged their exhibit booths along with other companies promoting their products and services.
