GB of CPSC convenes 101st Meeting, selects 11th Director General

On June 23, 2016, the Governing Board (GB) of the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) met for its 101st session and to conduct a panel interview of candidates for the 11th Director General recruitment held prior to the meeting proper convened at the CPSC Conference Room in Manila, Philippines.

The applicant from Nepal, a first for the country, was selected from among the contenders from India and Pakistan.

At the session proper, the Board discussed seven agenda items including the Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2015–2016, proposed operational plan and budget for fiscal year 2016–2017, and the election and turnover of Chairpersonship and Vice Chairpersonship of the GB. The proposals and agenda items put forward by CPSC were given thumbs up by the Board.

The meeting was presided by H.E. Kok Li Peng, Chairperson of the CPSC GB and Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore and co-chaired by Vice Chairperson of the CPSC GB and Ambassador of Sri Lanka, H.E. Aruni Ranaraja.

Apart from the CPSC Acting Director General Prof. Dr. G. Kulanthaivel, the 101st GB meeting attendees were also comprised of H.E. Maj. Gen. John Gomes, psc (Retd.), Ambassador of Bangladesh; H.E. L.D. Ralte, Ambassador of the Republic of India; H.E. Ye Myint Aung, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar; H.E. Safdar Hayat, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; Atty. Teodoro C. Pascua, Deputy Director General for TESD Operations, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Philippines; Ms. Sirimon Atipatya, First Secretary, Royal Thai Embassy; Mr. Rizany Irwan Muhamad Mazlan, Counsellor, Embassy of Malaysia; and Ms. Donna Gatmaytan, Director, Division IV, Office of the United Nations and International Organizations (UNIO), Department of Foreign Affairs Philippines.

The election and turnover of leadership took place as the last agenda item. The Board elects the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson on rotational basis, following alphabetical order of countries represented. H.E. Ranaraja accepted the Chairpersonship of the GB for fiscal year 2016–2017 while the Member for Thailand will serve as the Vice Chairperson.

A Plaque of Recognition for her leadership during her term was presented to the outgoing Chairperson H.E. Kok Li Peng. She expressed her appreciation to the members of the Board for the cooperation and friendship throughout the year and conveyed her best wishes to her successor and the incoming Vice Chairperson.
